GHANA PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSOCIATION AT CEM / LIGHTHOUSE CHAPEL DAY OF HELP — 8th September, 2017

On the 8th of September, 2017, volunteers from the Ghana Physiotherapy Association lent a hand at the annual CEM/Lighthouse Chapel Day of Help charity event.

This is an annual event focused on meeting the medical needs of people living with physical disabilities.

Thirty-one volunteers gathered at the Independence Square of Ghana to help provide professional Physiotherapy advice to attendees. Men, women and children who were living with some disability such as visual impairments, hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, stroke impairments and autism among others were bused from their locations across the country.

Health screening began at about 9:30 am with medical consultations, eye and dental screenings. All clients that required physiotherapy were then referred. Clients were triaged to neurological, Musculoskeletal and paediatric physiotherapy depending on their presenting complaint.

Services rendered covered client education, manipulations/mobilizations, exercise prescription as well as referrals to health centres or hospitals for continuous professional care. Prescriptions were also made for mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers as well as cerebral palsy sitting and standing frames. These were made available by organizers.

A total of 346 people were attended to: 55 with neurological conditions, 88 paediatric and 203 musculoskeletal.

The sun went down on a group of fulfilled PT volunteers working hand-in-hand with other medical professionals to meet the health care needs of some physically challenged.

Being able to provide expert support to those who needed it and to showcase the professionalism of qualified physiotherapists made the day a success.

We look forward to participating in the years ahead and to keep serving.
