GPA EVIDENCE UPDATES
GPA Evidence Updates are free monthly newsletters (emails) that feature new systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines on physiotherapy management of some common conditions seen within the Ghanaian physiotherapy context. These monthly updates are compiled by Ghana Physiotherapy Association (GPA) and are archived here. All identified systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines are cataloged according to conditions in the GPA Evidence Database for future reference.
GPA Evidence Updates and GPA evidence database are initiatives to serve the Ghanaian physiotherapy community by providing evidence that are easily accessible to Ghanaian physiotherapists to support practice and promote the evidence-based practice culture amongst physiotherapists and other colleagues within the rehabilitation community.
Each update presents new systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines published every month, with brief summaries of the relevant findings. The new articles are identified based on comprehensive searches of the PubMed database based on search strategies developed by Dr Beatrice Sankah.
GPA Evidence Updates and GPA Evidence Database were conceived and created by Dr Beatrice Sankah, a member of GPA, a systematic reviewer and evidence-based expert (University of Southampton, UK), in partnership with Ghana Physiotherapy Association to provide easily accessible evidence to support Ghanaian physiotherapy practice.
Expert advice on concept and review of the first draft of the foremost GPA Evidence Update (February 2022 edition) were provided by colleague physiotherapists:
- Mary Wetani Agoriwo – Assistant lecturer, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana
- Akua Bilson – Senior Physiotherapist and Systematic reviewer, the Trust Hospital, Accra, Ghana
- Martin Ackah –Biostatistician and Systematic reviewer, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, Ghana.
Professional and technical support for rolling out these initiatives were provided by GPA national executives – Dr Paul Amankonah (GPA President) and Cosmos Yarfi (General secretary).
