World PT DayGHANA PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY

Every year, the Ghana Physiotherapy community joins Physiotherapists around the globe to celebrate World Physiotherapy Day.

The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physical therapy community. It is an opportunity to recognize the work that Physiotherapists do for their patients and community.

The campaign message of World Physiotherapy Day 2016 is “Add life to years”, under the umbrella theme of Movement for Health. The message builds on the findings of WHO’s World Report on Ageing and Health and a range of reports indicating the contribution and cost effectiveness of physiotherapy in healthy ageing.

Activities lined up to mark the celebration include:

  • Public education through radio and TV programmes by Physiotherapists across the country. The interviews would bother on this year’s theme as well as Physiotherapy in general.  This will go on throughout the week.
  • Public  education and awareness creation about Physiotherapy and other health conditions through posters and e-fliers
  • Fitness session for the aged in collaboration with HelpAge, Ghana (an NGO) on Saturday, 10/09/16
  • Donation of items (including Zimmer frames, quads canes, corsets, knee braces, etc) to HelpAge, Ghana as a way of supporting the aged in the  society
  • One on one interaction between Physiotherapists and the Aged to help identify their physical challenges and suggest management solutions.

It is our hope that to put smiles on the faces of people again this year. We call on the media and other partners to come on board to make this year’s celebration a success.
